Hurtigruten – the world’s most beautiful sea voyage. Start in Kirkenes and cruise along the coast of Norway to Bergen. The Southbound cruise is the “nature” cruise, allowing more time for scenic experiences. Why not combine the cruise with one of our fjord tours from Bergen.
Arrival in Kirkenes according to your own itinerary. Departure with Hurtigruten around noon. The southbound journey will bring you from Kirkenes and along the western coastline of Norway to Bergen in 6 days. During the cruise you will experience everyday life along the coast, and the mix of tourists, local travelers and transported goods make this a unique experience. All meals are included for round trip passengers. During the cruise with Hurtigruten you can choose between a wide selection of optional shore excursions, which can be booked in advance or onboard the ship. Read more about the Hurtigruten cruise.
During the Summer you can join an optional shore excursion to the North Cape where you will enjoy breakfast and some time on your own to admire the view, watch the film about life in Arctic Norway and visit the exhibition at the North Cape Plateau. Afterwards the excursion continues by bus through impressive arctic scenery to Hammerfest. Arrival in Hammerfest, the first town in Norway to have electric street lighting. As early as 1891, residents could enjoy fully lit streets during the winter darkness. The journey continues south-west towards Tromsø, where you arrive late in the evening. Possibility to join a midnight concert at the Arctic Cathedral.
Morning arrival in Harstad before cruising along Vesterålen Islands to Lofoten Islands. As an alternative you can join an optional shore excursion across the Vesterålen Islands. From Stokmarknes the cruise continues through the spectacular Raftsundet sound, connecting Vesterålen with the Lofoten Islands. Arrival in Svolvær before dinnertime. Svolvær, the undisputed capital of the Lofoten Islands, is easily identified by the towering Svolværgeita Mountain. Spend the 2-hours long stop exploring the quays or visit the Magic Ice Museum. Our last stop for the day is Stamsund, a fishing station built into the rock, almost in defiance of nature. It is now one of the largest fishing stations in Lofoten.
Cruise along the Helgeland coastline. Numerous legends and stories are associated with this coastline. One such story is about the Seven Sisters and Torghatten Mountain and how they came to be such unusual shapes. A myth about the beautiful sisters tells of how they ran away from their father, King Sulis, and danced naked in the waters of the fjord. Unfortunately, the sisters forgot that when the sun rose they would all be turned into stone. Now they stand there, all in a row, as captivating and lovely as ever before.
Early morning arrival in Trondheim. Time at leisure until departure at 09:45 hrs. Enjoy a little of the city’s culture, architecture and history. Departure through the Trondheimfjord and along Trondheimsleia channel, before continuing southwards to Kristiansund and Molde. Kristiansund is the home of dried fish production while Molde is known for its breathtaking location with panoramic views of the 222 partly snow-clad mountain peaks (Romsdal Alps).
The last part of the cruise includes magnificent fjord- and archipelago scenery, before the ship arrives in Bergen. Bergen is called the Gateway to the Fjords, and it is the world's only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords. Departure from Bergen according to your own itinerary. As an alternative we recommend combining the cruise with one of our fjord tours from Bergen, e.g. Discover Fjord Norway or Sognefjord Adventure.
